5 Ways Marketing Can Help Your Job Search
Since the pandemic emerged earlier this year, millions of people have found themselves without jobs in one of the most competitive job markets ever seen. Now more than ever, candidates must be able to cut through the noise and the competition. That is something marketers know a lot about.
Here are five ways job seekers can use marketing fundamentals in their search.
1. Conduct keyword research to find jobs not posted in the LinkedIn Jobs section. Search for exact job titles, then filter results to 'Content' and sort by most recent. Find a post about a job opening, leave a comment, and get your foot in the door.
2. Monitor your traffic sources. Create a unique URL (UTM) each time you provide a link to your personal website and track the campaigns in Google Analytics. Don't have a Google Analytics-enabled website? Plug UTMs into Bit.ly and tag them by source and company. Now you'll know which companies are reviewing your background.
3. Optimize everything. Use tools like ResyMatch.io and Jobscan.co to prep your resume for the company's Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to ensure your resume is deemed a great match and lands in the hiring manager's inbox.
4. Do your competitive research to see what skills top talent in your field possess and where you may be coming up short.
5. Market yourself. Use every channel at your disposal. Create a portfolio, be a guest on an industry podcast, become a thought leader. Find your unique selling point and spread the word.
